中文摘要: 大脑在无意识条件下可以加工大量的信息,但其功能意义和神经机制尚不清楚。本项目以意识下对眼睛注视信息的处理为例,来研究意识下信息如何影响注意的功能特性和神经机制。前期实验显示注视方向在意识下即可被加工,且似可影响空间注意。 本项目将进一步通过心理物理实验,探测意识下注视方向对空间注意的影响及其时空特性;并以此为基础,通过功能磁共振成像手段,重点检测皮层下通路神经活动模式,考察在加工不同注视方向时皮层下核团与皮层上若干和注视方向及注意相关脑区的功能连接,从而阐明"意识下注视方向影响空间注意的神经机制"这一核心科学问题。本研究将获得意识下注视信息影响空间注意的行为学描述,以及通过脑功能成像数据对其神经机制提供解释。研究结果将有助于理解注意和视觉意识相互作用的神经机制,深化我们对视觉系统如何在意识下进行信息加工的理解,并为寻找视觉意识的神经表达提供依据。

英文摘要: Our brain processes a large amount of information behind the scene without our awareness. However, the functional significance and neural mechanisms of such processing are far from understood. We will take the processing of eye gaze direction as an exemplar system to investigate how our brain processes visual information unconsciously. Early research has shown that gaze direction could be processed without awareness, and possibly could influence the observers' attention. This project will use psychophysical and neuroimaging methods to investigate the spatiotemporal properties of the gaze information processing and the corresponding neural mechanisms, with particular emphasis on the role of the subcortical pathways as well as the interaction between the subcortical nuclei and the cortical areas involved in gaze processing and attention control. We expect that the results from this study will provide a comprehensive understanding of the spatiotemporal properties of unconscious gaze information processing, and the dynamic relationships between awareness and attention, which will contribute to the long-term goal of discovering the neural correlates of visual consciousness.
