Horizontal fractures related to tectonic uplift and denudation develop in the Cenozoic formation of the western Qaidam Basin, on which no research has been done at present. Based on tectonic deformation and model reconstruction, through integrated analysis of outcrops, cores, thin sections, image log and experiments, this project proposes to set up the 3D geological model of horizontal fractures by studying the key controlling factors on the fracture distribution. Through the generating sequence and the micro structural characteristics and the fluid inclusion analyses of the fillings in the horizontal fractures, we can discover the rules of fracture opening and being filled and the function of abnormal high pore fluid pressure, determine the forming time of horizontal fractures and clarify the formation mechanism. Combined with numerical simulation, we can set up quantitative relationship between the aperture of horizontal fractures and the uplift amplitude or denudation thickness, and discover the response of horizontal fractures to the tectonic uplift of the Tibetan Plateau. By analysis of geologic and geophysical data, we predict and evaluate of the fracture distribution in the deep formations and clarify the contribution of horizontal fractures to tight reservoirs. The research results will guide the oil and
