中文摘要: 本研究计划讨论光学Kerr非线性系统的特性,以及与此相关的空间光孤子传输问题,目标是揭示光学Kerr介质的两个重要特性(非局域性和自聚焦-自散焦性)的内在关联性。研究内容包括,通过对我们刚刚发现的、描述非局域Kerr非线性系统的新模型中非线性折射率随光强变化特性的研究,揭示该系统的自聚焦-自散焦性对非局域性的依赖关系,研究通过对非局域程度的控制(实际上是对光束束宽的控制)来实现亮孤子和暗孤子传输状态的控制问题;讨论在负性向列相液晶中物理上实现这个理论模型的可能性。 光学Kerr效应是非线性光学领域中的主要效应之一,对作为光学Kerr介质的两个最为重要的特性(非局域性和自聚焦-自散焦性)的重新审视,揭示它们的内在关联性,可使人们对与光学Kerr效应密切相关的光孤子物理本质有更深入地理解,进一步拓展对光孤子物理规律的认识。因此,本研究计划具有十分重要的科学意义和潜在应用。

英文摘要: In this proposal, we will discuss the properties of the optical Kerr nonlinear system and the spatial optical solitons related to the system. The goal of the proposal is to discover the relevancy between the two important intrinsic properties of the system, the nonlocality and the selffocusing-vs-selfdefocusing. The contents include two parts, there are, respectively, (1) to explore the dependency upon the nonlocality of the selffocusing-vs-selfdefocusing in a new specific optical Kerr nonlinearly nonlocal system that has been discovered by us recently, and to discuss the transition between the bright soliton state and the dark soliton state by the control of the degree of nonlocality; (2) to discuss the possibility of the physical realization of the theoretical model discovered in crystals with negative dielectric anisotropy. Optical Kerr effect is one of the main effects in nonlinear optics. A re-examination of the two important intrinsic properties for optical Kerr media and the discovery of the relevancy between them will make us to better understand the essence of optical solitons that are related to the effect and to further expand the realization of the physical law on the optical solitons. Our proposal, therefore, has its significance in science and its potential in application.
