中文摘要: 人类活动引起的海洋酸化已受到科学界越来越多的关注。对海洋生物而言,即使是同一门类的生物,响应有时也有很大差异,如何全面分析、估测酸化对海洋生物的效应,已成为当前的研究热点。浮游植物的粒径分布具有时空差异,受环境因子的调控,适合的粒径分布才能支撑海洋生态系统的正常运转。有很多研究表明海水中CO2是初级生产力的一个限制性因子,而细胞粒径越大,越容易受CO2的限制。因此,浮游植物对酸化的生理生态学响应在理论上应该与细胞粒径有某些内在关联,并影响到粒径分布。同时,大多数前期有关CO2的研究工作没有注意到碳酸盐系统的调控与维持。为此,本项目拟从不同大小硅藻入手,选取代表性的种类,遵循最新的海洋酸化研究规范,从生理学的角度找出硅藻响应海洋酸化的共性与不同点,并建立与细胞粒径的关系,结合中尺度围隔实验(Mesocosm),综合分析硅藻在生理生态学上对海洋酸化的响应,及与粒径分布变化的关系。

英文摘要: Human activity induced ocean acidification (OA) has aroused more and more attention, though most of marine organisms are affected by OA, it is hard, sometimes, to conclude a general response. Thus how to analysis and estimate the net effects of OA on marine organisms, has become an urgent issue. The size distribution of phytoplankton assemblages varies temporally and spatially, the appropriate size distribution facilitate marine ecosystem running healthily. Previous studies have shown that CO2 is a limiting factor for marine primary production, and big cells tend to be limited more. Therefore, it is proposed that the response of phytoplankton to OA should be affected by cell size. Moreover, most of previous studies did not pay attention to maintain carbonate system. In this study, we are planning to select representative diatom species according to size, growing in pH pre-adjusted seawater and maintained according to the newest guide for OA study, by using state-of-art technologies, e.g. several C14 techniques, chlorophyll fluorescence technique, elemental analysis etc., to find out how the diatoms physiologically respond to OA at micro and mesocosm levels, and establish the relationship with cell size, to estimate the size scaling resposne of diatoms to ocean acidification.
