Complexity theory has become to be one of the most important research directions of Evolutionary Economic Geography in recent years. This project takes the evolution of network structure of urban knowledge flows as a point and uses the firm survey data, co-authorships of research publications and co-patents in domestic and international databases and other relevant data as data sources, on the basis of Evolutionary Economic Geography, Complexity Science, Geographic Information System, Scientometrics and Social Network Analysis. Three biotechnology industry clusters in Jiangsu have been chosen as the case study regions. The topology and spatial structure are drawn by using UCINET, ArcGIS and other analytical software and the quantitative model and simulation model are built by UCINET, Pajek, Swarm. This project analyzes the structure and structural effects of urban knowledge flows at the macro level, explore the spatial organizational logic at the meso level, study the ontology mechanism at the micro level. Moreover it generalize the self-organization, emergence and collaboration of complexity theory from the above three level analysis respectively. Some targets of this project are set which include constructing quantitative analysis methods of urban knowledge flow, promoting evolutionary economic geography to explore in the fields of complexity theory and helping the government to make policies about high-tech industry innovation.
