Abundant evidence have demonstrated that prolonged wakefulness will influence many of physiological functions of human, such as attention, learning and memory, neuroendocrine and autonomic functions, as well as the sleep-wakefulness. It has been shown that stress blunts evoked excitatory transmission in prefrontal cortex. Little is known about the changes of activities of prefrontal cortex and synaptic plasticity of subcortical arousal systems under the prolonged-wakefulness condition as a stress. The purpose of this project is to observe the adaptive changes of activities of prefrontal cortex and synaptic plasticity of subcortical arousal systems under the prolonged-wakefulness condition, which will provide more evidence for better understanding the activities of arousal systems in sleep-wakefulness cycle.
