The Bering Sea is the only water route connecting the Arctic and Pacific Oceans. It is one of the most important carbon sink in the global oceans, and it is believed to be the source area of glacial North Pacific Intermediate Water. Thus, the climate change in the Bering Sea has great impact on the global climate.Since the last glacial, the Subarctic Pacific has experienced millennial scale rapid climate oscillations similar to those recorded in the North Atlantic and Greenland Ice cores. However, controversial conclutions are drawn from the existing record in the North Pacific that whether the climate developement in the Subarctic Pacific is in phase with the North Atlantic. And the mechanism of the teleconnection between these two climate key areas are unknown. High resolution records of sea surface temperature development, sea ice variability and sea-land relations are key parameters understanding the teleconnections between the North Pacific and North Atlantic Oceans, providing the boundary conditions for modeling the rapid climate oscillations. It is also the window to understand the deep water formation in the North Pacific. This project aims to study the sediment core retrieved from the Southeasten Bering Sea during the German INOPEX expedition, by using diatom and geochemical methods, to obtain the devel
