中文摘要: 参与介质(如烟、雾等)运动变化以及光在参与介质中传播过程都十分复杂,建模难度非常大。本项目研究基于数据驱动的参与介质建模理论、方法和关键技术,对促进参与介质在虚拟现实、系统仿真、影视娱乐等领域的应用具有重要的科学意义和应用价值。主要研究内容包括:研究参与介质数据采集方法,研制采集设备,研究参与介质密度场构造方法,解决大量未知参数的梯度快速求解和优化收敛问题;基于参与介质密度场,研究多尺度的速度场求解方法;研究基于密度场构造细节模型的方法,采集多种参与介质运动数据,构造细节模型库;基于单视点采集数据,研究构造符合物理规律的参与介质模型方法,解决物理方程参数优化求解问题;研究参与介质模型编辑方法,降低计算量,结合细节模型库,为用户提供实时、可控、逼真的编辑工具。

英文摘要: The modeling of participating media, such as smoke and fog, is a challenging problem, because their motion and the light propagation inside are highly complex. The purpose of this project is to investigate the theories, methodology and key techniques of participating media modeling. This research will establish a richer scientific understanding of participating media, and has applications in a broad spectrum of areas including virtual reality, system simulation, filmmaking and other forms of digital entertainment. The major thrusts of this research are: the development of methods and devices for acquiring the density field of participating media; while finding the density field, improving the efficiency of gradient computation and the convergence of the iterative optimization process; based on the density field, solving the multi-scale velocity fields and high frequency details; acquiring detailed motion data for a variety of types of participating media to create a database; establishing a physics-based participating media modeling method from animations captured at a single view; based on the detailed motion database, developing a real-time, controllable and realistic participating media editing tool with low computational complexity.
