White organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) have become of considerable commercialization interest in recent years for the fabrication of next-generation full-color displays with color filters or as solid state lighting panels. Improvement of luminous efficiency of the white OLEDs is of importance for the efficient usage of electrical power. In this study, we will design and synthesize a series of oragnic materials with a small singlet-triplet exchange energy and a high triplet energy for both light-emitting material and host material to give highly efficient fluorescent/phosphorescent hybrid white OLEDs. By lowering their energy gaps between singlet and triplet excited states, up-conversion of triplet excitons into a singlet state can be realized to give thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) and thus an improved fluorescence radiative efficiency. In addition, due to their high triplet energy, improvement of phosphorescence efficiency is also expectable because of triplet energy confinement on the phosphorescent emitters. Moreover, novel fluorescence / phosphorescence hybrid white OLEDs will be designed and fabricated with these materials to achieve high luminous efficiency, low driving voltage, and long lifetime.
