Discretely spaced phosphenes elicited by limited electrodes in a visual prosthesis can only provide basic visual information. Therefore, one of the key problem is how to use the low-resolution vision formed by a limited number of stimulation points to present important visual information and help prosthesis wearers to obtain the best visual experience. In this project, we use the psychophysical method to determine the minimum requirements for visual prosthesis to restore useful vision. The performance of positioning and size estimates of simulated phosphenes were studied using tactile perception. Based on optimal phosphene models, we studied the law of pixelized Chinese character recognition and paragraph reading. The recognition of static and moving objects based on the combination of various strategies were carried out. Meanwhile, we studied the visual selective attention of the simulated prosthetic vision and investigated its difference from the normal vision. These studies could lay the foundation of visual prosthesis for the information processing and coding theory, and provide important experimental theory for rehabilitation training after implant.
