In view of the frontier issues in the study of adolescent depression, the present research will be based on pilot studies and apply ERP,structural MRI and resting-state fMRI to explore the cognitive neural mechanism of automatic emotion regulation in depressive adolescents. We will answer the following scientific problems: (1) using ERPs, how can we reveal positive and negative deficits at different processing stages of automatic emotion dysregulation in depressive adolescents; (2) what relationships are there between abnormal changes in the stuture and function of depressive adolescent brains and ERPs reflecting automatic emotion regulation? This research will first examine time course of positive and negative biases in depressive adolescents from the aspects of automatic response inhibition and automatic cognitive control. Next, this project will use voxel-based morphometry and resting-state fMRI to investigate abnormal changes in gray matter volume and intrinsic function connectivity of depressive adolescents, and use graph-theory-based connectomics to explore brain topographic abnormal changes in depressive adolescents from the structural and functional aspects. Furthermore, we will analyze the correlation between these structural-functional abnormal changes and ERPs reflecting automatic emotion regulation. This project will contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the cognitive neural mechanism of automatic emotion regulation in depressive adolescents, serve as a theoretical underpinning of early diagnosis and prevention of adolescent depression, and promote connetomics deeper into the development research of adolescent brain in China.
