Stiffened composite panels have a high post-buckling strength capacity, and it is needed for a reasonable use in composite structure design. In the process of manufacture, transport, use, and maintenance, various damages may be occurred in composite materials, and the performance of composite structure containing damage is the key point of damage tolerance design. The damage propagation and failure mechanism of stitched composite stiffened panels containing damage (SCSPD) in the stage of post-buckling will be investigated in this project. Microscopic tests are designed according to different damage modes in the process of post-buckling, and the failure model of damage initiation and propagation is built. Considering multiple damage modes, such as the fracture of stitches, debonding between skin and ribs, the damage of fibre and matrix, the global-local methods of analyzing post-buckling load-carrying capacities of SCSPD will be studied. Based on the design requirements of different damage modes and post-buckling load-carrying capacity, the fast optimal design method of SSCPD is investigated. The project will develop an optimal design system of SCSPD to provide fast and reliable methods for damage tolerance design of composite structures, which will save design time and reduce design cost.
