Semiconductor nanowires exhibit novel electronic and optical properties, and are.considered to be key components in nanoscale device applications. Catalytic.synthesis of nanowires is one of the popularly used methods. Because of the high temperature needed for activation of catalysts, the fabrication of nanowires in a solution or in gas all have many limitations, such as rigorous reaction condition, unavoidable byproducts, and lack of controllability . Pulsed laser can heat the catalyst nanoparticles with high boiling point selectively, which can lead to the activation of catalysts even in a solution. In this project, the catalytic performance of catalyst under laser ablation and the effect of temporal discontinuity and quenching effect of pulse heating of pulsed laser on the formation of nanowires will be explored. Mechanism of nanowires formation induced by pulsed laser will be elaborated. We will provide a simple and green laser assisted strategy for the preparation of one-dimensional nanostructures, which can overcome the limitation of traditional catalytic growth route. It is also beneficial for obtaining of patterned nanowires which can help to extend the applications of one-dimensional nanostructures.
