Large mammalians, including non-human primates (NHP), have been widely used in life science research. MRI study on NHPs is currently carried out under low magnetic field. This proposal will use the advanced 9.4 T wide-bore MRI facility at High Magnetic Field Lab (HMFL) to study the connectivity between brain structure and brain function in large NHP animal models. The key MR imaging and spectroscopic methods that will be developed include phase imaging, susceptibility tensor imaging, SSFP functional imaging, and inter-molecular multi-quantum (iMQC) spectroscopy. The research aim is to explore the high field phase imaging mechanism, the theoretical basis of the SSFP functional imaging, as well as brain metabolism and brain function. The implementation of the project will provide important new imaging tools for clinical and life sciences research. Studies in the connectivity between brain structure and brain function in large NHP also give new insight into the understanding of the human brain.
