With the increasing production and application of carbon nanomaterials(CNMs), the potential ecological risks of CNMs have received much attention. CNMs has unique photochemical properties, which can produce the reactive oxygen species (ROS) under UV/vis light, and may decompose the organic contaminants. However, as the mechanisms which CNMs produce the ROS are very complicant, and may be influenced by many factors, the relative study is rarely to see and exact mechanisms are not well understood.Furthermore, because of the relatively high adsorption ability of CNMs, the organic pollutants may easily to be adsorbed on the surface of CNMs, which may enhance the degradation reactions by ROS. Accordingly, ROS recation may be one of the most important degradation reactions of pollutants by CNMs. The theme of the proposed study is the mechanisms controlling the effects of typical CNMs on the production of ROS and degradation of typical organic contaminants in aquatic environments. Specifically, we will focus on the complex system of CNMs, ROS,organic contaminants, and consider the effects of fuctional groups on CNMs, water chemistry, UV/vis light conditions. Try to understand the intrinsic mechanism of types and concentrations of ROS produced by CNMs, and the impact of the degradation reactions of organic contaminants.
