Aquatic macrophytes traditionally have been thought to be limited very little by dispersal, relative to terrestrial plants, based on the observation that many species are widely distributed. Local environmental factors and inter-specific interactions are the major forces determining species composition of aquatic plant community. A growing number of studies suggest that, at a regional scale, both the local ecological factors and regional processes such as dispersal (species pool) influenced species distribution. River networks exhibit a dendritic spatial structure that can constrain aquatic plant distribution when their dispersal is influenced by this network. Land use and hydroelectric cascade exploitation changed the connectivity between the habitat patches within river ecological system. Here, we address the relationship between local habitat factors and diversity of aquatic macrophytes of the three outflow river ecosystem in Southeast Zhejiang, and examine the effects of connectivity between habitat patches on α, β, and γ diversity of aquatic macrophytes. The aim of this research is to assess the relative importance of local habitat factors and of regional process such as dispersal for aquatic macrophyte diversity pattern, using modern GIS techniques and canonical correspondence analysis, and clarify the dri
