Adolescents are at high-risk of internet addition (IA). It is important to understand the psychopathology of IA in order to reduce its serious impact on healthy development of adolescents. One of the neurobiological models of brain development in adolescence hypothesizes that there exists an imbalance in developmental trajectory between the reward system and control system: higher development in reward system overpowers the less matured control system, which may form a risk factor in addictive behaviors during adolescence. Few empirical studies systematically examined this hypothesis in terms of IA in adolescents. In the current project, we propose to carry out a series of studies combining techniques ranging from questionnaires, behavioral testing, electrophysiology, functional and structural brain imaging to test the above hypothesis. Firstly, questionnaire assessments are used to examine the relationships among internet addiction, reward seeking and impulse control in adolescents. Next, the imbalance between reward seeking (the decision utility task) and cognitive control (Stroop task) systems will be explored with behavioral testing, event-related potentials (ERP) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) technology. Finally, using voxel-based morphometry analysis, we examine whether the behavioral an
