Surface plasmon resonance is a much unique optical property of metal nanostructures. The study on the nanostructure systems based on surface plasmon resonance is one of the most rapidly developing worldwide hot topics, being named as Surface Plasmon Photonics. Combined closely with quantum information and nanostructural metal photonics, the aim of this project is to study the leading fundamentals of the miniaturization of optical devices and Surface Plasmon Photonics, and to prepare one-dimensional coaxial nanocable structures by using the two typical structures of medium-metal-medium and/or metal-medium-metal structures which are investigated widely in planar integrated surface plasmon waveguide devices. The emphasis will be paid on the intrinsic behaviors of low-dimensional surface plasmon in one-dimensional coaxial nanocables from noble metals (Au, Ag, etc) and medium, and the principle, manipulating method, quantum optical phenomena and so on of the strong coupling interaction between light and solid state quantum system based on such surface plasmon. We will also explore the potential applications of this type of nanoscale optical devices from such nanostructures in quantum memory, quantum repeater and quantum interference control.
