This project will study the tolerance and ecological adaptability mechanism in long term soil cadmium contamination of earthworm individuals and population based on the field survey and laboratory experiments. The field survey will mainly study the effect of contaminated years, cadmium concentration etc. in different contaminated areas on the earthworm population structure and distribution; analyze the effect of cadmium on the development of earthworm populations from its whole life cycle and different generations to reveal the mechanism of earthworm population ecological adaptability to heavy metal contamination. With the laboratory microcosm experiments, the effect of cadmium on earthworm individual will be studied from the biological level of earthworm body wall and the digestive tract epidermis, the chloragogenous in the body cavity, enzymes and gene expression changes to reveal the mechanism of earthworm tolerance and adaptability to heavy metal contamination. Finally, the survey and microcosm experiment data will be analyzed with Holistic comprehensive methods to reveal the relationship between earthworm individuals and population and the heavy metal cadmium defense network system of earthworm will be established. This study will provide scientific data for the soil contamination risk assessment and ecological remediation.
