Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a chronic and severe mental disorder precipitated by extraordinarily traumatic stressors. One of the most essential and cutting-edge research questions regarding PTSD is how to organize clinically useful diagnostic criteria for PTSD. In the present proposal, we aim to systematically validate a newly developed five-factor diagnostic model of PTSD on the basis of research sites and databases established by our institute after Wenchuan earthquake, Yushu earthquake, and Zhouqu mudslide. Using longitudinal cross-lagged design, the internal discriminant validity of the novel diagnostic model of PTSD will first be examined. With a range of external psychological, biological, and behavioral variables, the external convergent and discriminant validity of the diagnostic model will be subsequently investigated. Findings from the series of studies are pertinent for further organizing clinically useful diagnostic criteria that can guide sophisticated assessment and intervention for traumatized people, provide more detail into the latent psychopathological processes of PTSD, and help to elucidate the genetic, cognitive, physiological, and neural underpinnings of PTSD.
