中文摘要: 具有不对称传输(asymmetric transmission)特性的材料在光隔离器、环形器和偏振转换器等方面有重要应用。自从研究人员在二维手性超材料中发现偏振相关的不对称传输特性以来,因其相比传统旋光晶体材料无需外加磁场且结构微小易集成的特点吸引了大量关注。但目前研究大都集中在微波段,且不对称系数与带宽较小,离实用尚有差距。本项目申请者前期研究发现,层状及螺旋状等三维手性结构可得到较大带宽和较高不对称系数。因此,项目提出对三维手性超材料开展进一步研究,包括:研究产生不对称传输现象的电磁学原理,并通过数值算法模拟、分析三维手性超材料的光学不对称传输特性;实验上进行三维手性超材料的制备与光学特性测试研究,最终完成光频下高不对称系数、大工作带宽三维手性超材料的样片设计与制备。本项目的开展将会进一步挖掘三维手性超材料的特殊光学性能,并期望对最终实现在集成光器件上的应用起到推动作用。

英文摘要: Materials with asymmetric transmissions have important applications such as optical isolators, circulators and polarization convertors. Since scientists discovered a kind of polarization dependent asymmetric transmission in planar chiral metamaterials, these materials have attracted much attention owing to their compact structures and the absence of extra-magnetic field compared with optical active crystals. So far, however, most of the works are focused on the microwave frequency, and the asymmetric parameters and operation band are both relatively small, which limit their further applications. Base on our previous work, the layered and helical chiral metamaterials have broader band and higher asymmetric parameter. Therefore, the applicant plans to carry out researches on asymmetric transmissions on three-dimensional (3D) chiral metamaterials, including: study of the electromagnetic principles for asymmetric transmissions, and analysis of the asymmetric transmissions in 3D chiral metamaterials by numerical simulations; fabricating and testing the 3D chiral metamaterials; finally, completing the chiral metamaterials with high asymmetric transmission coefficents and wide operation bands in the optical wavelength range. This project will further discover the unique property of 3D chiral metamaterials and promote their applications in optical integrating devices.
