Continental shelf mud sediment is one of the key problems in the studies of land-ocean interaction. Sedimentary records are important for climate change, environmental evolution, sediment source and transport, and its response to human activities. In this study, the northern Taiwan Strait as the study area will be chose. Because the sediment types include mud, the sources of sediment are rich and complicated, the deposition rate is high, and upwelling occurs, the mud zone in the northern Taiwan Strait is a good area for researching the sediment source, environment records and identification of the mud sediments. Through the measurement of hydrodynamic process, grain size, pigment, sterols, alkenone, clay, multi indexes that can indicate the different source of sediment will be recognized and built. Integrated the multi indexes in seawater, sediment trap, surface sediment and core sediment, combined the sediment dynamic process, the forming and embedding process of sediment records in mud area will be analyzed. This study can provide the basic data for researching the change of sediment environment and ecological system, provide reference for studying marine sediment record and global change.
