Multilayer functional polymer films have been extensively applied, such as solar cell, sensor, and the surface coating of biological materials and so on. The stability of thin polymer films is a key factor determining its technological applications. Compared to single layer polymer film, the instability mechanism of multilayer polymer film and its kinetic process of structure formation are still unclear. In this proposal, we will investigate the influence of polymer chain entanglement on the instability mechanism and the kinetic process of structure formation of thin polymer bilayer film by use of in-situ experimental methods and numerical analysis. Firstly, the mechanism of slippage effect of polymer entanglement chains on the liquid substrates will be disclosed. Secondly, the pathway of the energy dissipation in the moving process of the three-phase contact line on the liquid substrates will be clarified. In addition, we will get an insight into the influence of the viscoelastic property of the entangled polymer on the coupling relation of different interfacial instability modes. Finally, the physical essence of different surface morphologies and structures formation via the above research will be revealed. We hope it can provide a theoretical basis and scientific guidance for precisely controlling the film morphologies and structures.
