Arbuscular mycorrhizas (AM) are highly specialized endosymbiotic associations between soil fungi - Glomeromycota and 80% land plant species including majority of important crops. Despite the agronomic and environmental importance of the AM symbiosis, little is known about the crucial stages of plant-fungi interaction, in particular the nature of molecular dialog, fungal recognition and successful root penetration. In this project, we focus on the study of fungal gene expression during the early stage of AM formation. Some fungal genes related to Ca2+-dependent signaling in Glomus mosseae and Glomus intraradices were cloned. Expression, regulation and expression localization of these genes were detected and the results indicated they could be involved in AM symbiosis development and/or functioning in the fully established symbiosis, in comparison to early steps of plant-fungal interactions.
