Current machine learning techniques are able to achieve spectacular results in automatic understanding of natural images whereas in the area of medical image analysis the progress is not that evident. The problem is medical knowledge essential for proper interpretation of image content. That knowledge, possessed by relatively small number of radiological or biomedical experts, usually cannot be directly expressed using mathematical formulas. This can be overcome by laborious knowledge acquisition or by techniques to some extent imitating expert behaviour. Both approaches are, however, still challenging tasks. That is why the goal of the special session is to discuss the problems in acquisition and utilization of domain knowledge in automatic understanding of semantic image structure.

Both computer scientists as well as radiological and biomedical experts are welcome as participants. The session should constitute a perfect forum to express expectations, suggest solutions and share experience for members of those communities.

The scope of the session contains, but is not limited to, the following topics:
- deep architectures and learning in image analysis (e.g. convolutional neural networks, LSTM networks, etc.);
- expert knowledge acquisition and representation methods (how effectively medical knowledge can be acquired and used in existing models of image analysis);
- classical image segmentation and object localization techniques capable of using domain specific knowledge (e.g. active contours, neural networks, etc.);
- structural image representation and analysis (e.g. image decomposition, structured prediction, probabilistic graphical models).

With rapid development of digital devices and communication techniques, we are in the big data era. Many aspects for both scientific research and people’s daily life have been influenced by big data based technology such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and Internet of Things. Providing security and privacy for big data storage, transmission, and processing have been attracting much attention in all big data related areas. IEEE BigDataSecurity 2019 addresses this domain and aims to gather recent academic achievements in this field.

Internet of Things is the second concentration of IEEE BigDataSecurity 2019. The emerging needs for transmission, storage, and processing data in IoT environment with security and privacy guaranteed have attracted attention from a number of different perspectives. The new methods deployed in IoT environment have covered distinct dimensions, such as edge/fog computing, energy consumptions, high performance, and heterogeneous resources, cloud models, heterogeneous architecture, tele-health, resource allocation, load balance, multimedia, and QoS, etc.

The 40th annual international Petri Nets conference will be organized by the Process and Data Science (PADS) group at RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, Germany. The new PADS group was established in the context of Wil van der Aalst’s Alexander von Humboldt Professorship. The conference will take place in the conference area of the Tivoli football stadium close to the city center of Aachen. The language of the conference is English, and its proceedings will be published by Springer-Verlag in Lecture Notes in Computer Science. Papers presenting original research on application or theory of Petri nets, as well as contributions addressing topics relevant to the general field of distributed and concurrent systems are sought. All accepted regular papers will be considered for an “Outstanding Paper” award. The ACM International Symposium on High-Performance Parallel and Distributed Computing (HPDC) is the premier annual conference for presenting the latest research on the design, implementation, evaluation, and the use of parallel and distributed systems for high-end computing. The 28th HPDC will take place in Phoenix, Arizona, United States on June 22-29, 2019

Submissions are welcomed on high-performance parallel and distributed computing (HPDC) topics including but not limited to: clouds, clusters, grids, big data, massively multicore, and extreme-scale computing systems. Submissions that focus on the operating systems, runtime environments, architectures, and networks of high end computing systems are particularly encouraged. Experience reports of operational deployments that provide significantly novel insights for future research on HPDC applications and systems will also receive special consideration. All papers will be evaluated for their originality, technical depth and correctness, potential impact, relevance to the conference, and quality of presentation. Research papers must clearly demonstrate research contributions and novelty, while experience reports must clearly describe lessons learned and demonstrate impact.
