This project aims to propose and study a new reduction mode of metal ion in the electrodeposition growth system for noble metal nanomaterial, which is electron tunneling reduction. Different with classical reduction mode, this new reduction mode is that under some certain conditions, the electrons on the growth surface will tunnel into the solution and reduce the metal ions. The reduction of metal ions is the initiative stage of metal nanomaterial growth in the electrondeposition system, which will have direct and primary effect on the growth process. In this project, we will apply both experimental and theoretic methods to study the growth process of noble metal nanomaterial under electron tunneling mode. This study will discover the effect of electron tunneling reduction mode on material growth and obtain the corresponding growth mechanism. Using the particle-mediated growth induced by the electron tunneling reduction, this project also will study the shape control mechanism of hierarchical noble metal nanomaterials. Upon the study, this project will further discover and develop the growth theory of metal nanomaterial in the solution system, which will have important academic value.
