We found that there are some differences in the brain mechanism between the addictive memory and normal memory. Our current results showed that those influence normal learning and memory, including blocking cholinergical system by scopolamine, inhibiting protein synthesis and electric shock after conditioning of CPP (conditioned place preference) failed to impair (even has reverse effects on ) the learning and memory associated with addiction. Thus, we combined the behavioral tests with brain image techniques including PET and fMRI, to compare the similarities and differences between normal learning and memory with the addiction-related learning and memory. Our study demonstrates that addiction-related learning and memory seems to have some different brain mechanisms with normal learning and memory. The factors that can affect the normal learning and memory don’ affect the addiction-related learning and memory, to the contrary, these factors seems to be the promotion of addiction-related learning and memory. Our findings might improve the general concepts and theories of memory and learning.
