The taxonomic revision of Celastrus L. in China was performed based on population investigation in the field and 6500 sheetes specimens examination in herbaria at home and abroad, macro- and micro-morphological studies, parafin section researches of inflorescences and articulation on stalks and molecular phylogenetic methods, which construct intra generic relationships and clarify several problematic species in the genus. The results based on micro-mophological research indicated similar pollen morphology inter species, a little differencee of density in stomata and pubescence on leaves and obvious differences in seed coat charactersitics for species identification. The molecular phylogenetic analysis refuse the subgeneric classification schemes of the genus based on inflorescences and other mophologies. For no distinct morphologies collaborating the molecular results were detected, no new subgeneric classification system is provided in the present study. Furthermore, the monophy of Celastrus need to be confirmed and its ambigous relationship with Tripterygium is also waiting for verification. Based on our revision, 21 species are distributed in China, two of them are new species and one of them is the new record, one species left for further examination. Four papers have been published (one SCI paper) and three more in revision (two of them are SCI journals).
