中文摘要: 传统的DRAM技术由于存在存储密度低和功耗高的缺点,已经不能适应现代集成电路技术的发展趋势。PCM技术因其在存储密度和功耗方面具有显著优势,被视为最具潜力的DRAM替代技术。但是,PCM能够承受的写入次数非常有限。由于内存的访问通常是很不均衡的,PCM内存很可能由于局部过热而提早损坏,使用寿命和可用性面临巨大挑战。本课题组拟研究基于编译的损耗均衡方法,通过改善内存的访问均衡来避免局部过热和提早损耗,从而改善PCM内存的使用寿命和可用性。拟研究一种数据重命名方法来改善数据的访问均衡;拟研究一种损耗均衡感知的数据分配方法来改善数据的存储均衡;拟研究一种有机融合现有的硬件、操作系统和编译层次方法的层次化的损耗均衡方案。通过本课题的研究,将实现高性能、低功耗的PCM内存损耗均衡方法,以改善PCM内存的可用性,对于PCM技术的进一步推广应用具有重要意义,也为面向其他存储技术的编译方法提供新的思路。

英文摘要: Conventional DRAM technology cannot meet the development trend of integrated circuit technology due to its low storage density and high power consumption. Meanwhile, the emerging PCM technology has been widely regarded as the most promising alternative technology to build main memory, due to its attractive features such as high storage density and ultra low leakage power. However, PCM endures a very limited number of writes. Considering that write operations are unbalanced among the main memory, a small fraction of hot memory cells will be damaged much earlier than others, thus greatly shortening the lifetime of PCM memory. This project aims at studying wear leveling aware compilation technologies for PCM main memory with long lifetime and distinguished availability. The main contents include: (1) Compilation for well-balanced data access via data object renaming. (2) Compilation for well-balanced data storage via novel well leveling aware data allocation. (3) Hierarchically fusing multiple state of the art wear leveling techniques together to significantly improve the efficiency and availability of PCM main memory.
