中文摘要: 三维模型正被越来越广泛地应用于众多的应用系统中,包括三维虚拟漫游系统、静物展示和交互系统、计算机动画、电子商务和科学可视化等等。三维模型数量和复杂度的飞速增加对于系统的存储、处理和传输能力都带来了巨大压力。因此,为了缓解三维模型数据量增加带来的压力,三维模型简化和压缩在过去一段时间内一直是热点研究问题。但是,过去的研究多集中于三维模型中几何和连接信息的简化和压缩,对于属性信息如纹理、法向等较少关注,虽然这些属性信息对于模型的显示效果至关重要而且同样占用很大的存储空间。 本项目研究带属性的三维模型的简化和压缩。具体讲,本项目研究带有颜色和法向属性的三维点云模型的简化和压缩、带有纹理属性的三维网格模型和纹理图像的简化和压缩。我们的算法将综合考虑各种属性,以优化地产生中间模型,并且优化地分配编码比特数,使得在给定的图元数目或者编码比特数的限制下,重构的中间模型具有最优的视觉保真度。

英文摘要: 3D models have been widely used in different multimedia applications, including 3D virtual reality, product display and interaction, computer animation, e-commerce and scientific visualization. Three-dimensional models have shown great increasement in size and complexity, which has brought new challenges to media storage, computer processing and network transmission. In order to deal with these great challenges, simplification and compression of 3D models has been intensively researched in the past years. However, most of the past research has focused on simplifying and compressing the connectivity and the geometry information but not other attributes such as texture and normal, though those attributes significantly contribute to the visual apperance and consume a large amount of storage space. Therefore, the focus of this project is on simplification and compression of 3D models with attributes. Specifically, we will work on simplification and compression of 3D point-based models with color and normal attributes, and simplification and compression of 3D meshes with texture attributes. In our algorithms, we will systematically consider all the attributes to optimally allocate the bugets, be it primitive count or coding bitrate, between various attributes.
