Somatostatin has been well known as a neuroendocrine factor playing pivotal role in the regulation of teleost growth. Based on the previous studies from our lab and other colleagues, somatostatin is highly expressed in both central nervous system and digestive systems. In the present study, we will put somatostatin as a new kind of gut-brain peptide. From a new angle, we will carry out the research focusing on the somatostatin effect on the regulation mechanism of fish glucolipid metabolism using grouper as a model. Meanwhile, the negative feedback of intermediate metabolites on gene expression of SS and its receptors will be illuminated. By in vitro and in vivo experiments, we will explore the effect of somatostatin on glucolipid mechanism from the molecular level, we hope the new data will give us new knowledge about fish molecular nutrition. It is suggested that there is a close inner link between neuroendocrine system and digestive system. We believe that the new findings about somatostatin synergy mechanism on regulating growth and glucolipid metabolism will provide new evidence to support the hypothesis. We also firmly believed that our results will provide new theories and ideas to improve the fish growth rate and feed efficiency in aquaculture.
