中文摘要: 南海是全球内波最强、发生最频繁的海域之一。大振幅内孤立波导致的强剪切流,对海上钻井平台、输油管道、水下潜艇活动等都形成了严重威胁。本项目拟以数值模拟研究为主线,结合海上现场观测和实验室物模实验,多角度同步交叉,研究和揭示南海内波的三维生成、传播及其耗散过程的动力学机制,刻画内波在南海陆架陆坡区的具体形变规律,定量描述内波能量的重新分布和耗散。其成果将丰富和发展南海深海环流和热盐环流理论及提高区域海洋变化对气候或天气事件异常作用的认识,为提高极端海洋动力过程预测能力、促进海洋开发和国防安全等提供服务。

英文摘要: The South China Sea (SCS) is among one of the areas where internal waves are strongest and most frequently observed in the world's oceans. The strong current shear induced by large amplitude internal solitary waves greatly threatens the proper performance of offshore drilling platforms, oil pipelines, and submarines. Mainly employing numerical simulation methods and supplemented by at-sea observations and laboratory experiments, this project aims, in a multi-angled and synchronous way, to look into and reveal the dynamic mechanisms of the three-dimensional generation, propagation, and dissipation processes of the internal waves in the SCS; to delineate the detailed transformation tendencies of shoaling internal waves above the SCS slope-shelf area; to quantitatively describe the redistribution and dissipation of internal wave energy. The outcomes would enrich and further develop deep-ocean circulation and thermohaline circulation theories in the SCS, as well as enhance our understanding of the influence of local oceanic environment variations on the climate or weather anomaly events, which would undoubtedly improve our ability to predict extreme oceanic dynamic processes, promote marine exploitation, and serve the security of the national defense.
