The pathogen of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) was characterized as high mutation and frequent recombinants. According to their phylogenetic relationship, HIV could be classified into various genotypes and recombinants. Yunnan, the most south-eastern province in China, was neighbored with Southeast Asian countries. The specific geographic location made it become the first station of HIV-1 spreading into China, and the hotspot where HIV-1 recombinants occurring. Yunnan has always played the most important role in the research of HIV-1 cross-border transmission and its historical evolution. In regard to this, based on the samples collected from HIV-1 positive cross-border travelers of all the 17 entry ports in Yunnan since 2002, we are planning to continue the monitoring on HIV-1 infection among cross-border travelers for further understanding of HIV cross-border transmission. To clarify the HIV genotypes and recombinants distribution among cross-border travelers and their evolution characters, the stored and newly collected samples were conducted with target gene amplification, sequencing and followed analysis. This research was characterized as geographic specific, the long period of sample collecting. HIV cross-border transmission characters and its evolution could be well reflected. It is also possible to discover the novel genotype/recombinant. Our findings could provide the epidemiological data for the monitoring of HIV cross-border transmission, clarifying its evolution and forecasting of HIV spread.
