中文摘要: 高性能计算正从千万亿次运算迈入百亿亿次运算的时代,单一芯片上将集成成百上千的IP核,而对于这种大规模核间互连的需求,当前电片上网络存在带宽、时延、功耗等瓶颈,因此在未来高性能芯片设计中,人们更趋向于用光片上网络来解决这些技术瓶颈。当前光片上网络的研究主要集中在中小规模的网络的二维结构设计上,以提高吞吐,降低时延和功耗为设计目标。当网络规模扩大时,将加剧现有设计方案阻塞概率大、可靠性低、可扩展性差等问题。本项目拟采用三维拓扑结构设计,通过时分复用、波分复用、空分复用相结合的方法,实现混合高效复用技术,在降低阻塞、提供高带宽的同时,充分利用片上资源,有效降低成本,设计实现具有多播功能的光片上网络结构,从而支持多种通信模式,设计多目标路由算法,从阻塞、容错、损耗和串扰出发,确保路由的高效性和容错性,提高信号的信噪比,从结构设计出发,改善光片上网络的可靠性。最终实现面向千核的光片上网络架构。

英文摘要: HPC is entering a new era of exascale computing instead of petascale computing, in which hundreds or even a thousand of IP cores will be integrated on a single chip. However, the current proposals of NoC based on metal interconnect face so many challenges, such as limited bandwidth, long latency, and excessive power consumption, that they can hardly provide an ideal platform for the thousand-core architecture. Optical network-on-chip, a promising alternative to eliminate these bottlenecks, is attracting more attentions in the future high performance chip design. Currently, research mainly focuses on how to improve the throughput while lower the latency and energy consumption in small- and medium-size 2D architecture. As the network extends to large-scale, some problems, i.e., high congestion probability, low reliability and scalability, will be more serious. In this project, we tend to employ the 3D topology to serve as the fundamental structure, and design a new multiplexing method combining WDM, SDM, and TDM, thus providing a higher bandwidth as well as mitigating the congestion and overhead. A novel router with multicast function will also be designed to support multiple communications. In addition, a multi-target routing algorithm aiming at the low congestion, fault-tolerance, low crosstalk, and low insertion loss will be proposed to improve the reliability and communication efficiency. Finally a design of thousand-core single-chip architecture will be proposed.
