中文摘要: 本提案建议使用三年的时间,从理论上来调研处于剧烈的雷雨暴风气象之上的,并由于大气对流层的强湍流活动所引发的大气中间层的重力波效应。 已有明显的迹象表明,大气对流层的雷雨暴风迹象是大气中间层重力波活动的显著代表源。例如,通过火箭观测到的,在雷暴迹象之上的大气中间层出现热效应;通过雷达探测到的,在雷暴之上的大气平流层出现上行重力波;从地面和卫星平台上所看到的夜间气辉其有序而成环状的重力波波形。所有这些迹象都与位于其下的雷暴活动有紧密的联系。此类雷暴通常主要集中在我国东部沿海以及地球其他沿海海湾地域, 在科学文献中此类雷暴对大气中间层的影响仍未被充分地研究和了解。拟于解决的科学问题:一,大气对流层的分散式湍流源是如何产生柱形重力波的;二,这些柱形重力波对大气中间层的影响如何,如热散率,风场以及密度波动等等。本提案针对于重力波产生的基础物理机制,以及大气中间层重力波的耗散,能量和动量的陈积,扰动的产生。

英文摘要: This proposal plans for a three year research program to theoretically investigate the mesospheric effects of gravity waves generated by strong convective activity in severe thunderstorms at tropospheric altitudes. There have been strong evidences that tropospheric thunderstorms represent significant sources of gravity wave activity at mesospheric altitudes. For instances, rocket observations of mesospheric heating above thunderstorms;radar detection of upward traveling gravity waves at stratospheric altitudes above thunderstorms;discovery from ground and satellite based platforms of nightglow emissions exhibiting coherent circular gravity wave structure. All these evidences are strongly associated with underlying thunderstorm activity. These types of storms occur chiefly over the eastern coast of China, and over many other coast lines of the globe, their mesospheric effects have not yet been adequately studied and described in scientific literature. The scientific questions which motivate the project: (1) What is the dynamics of mesospheric cylindrical gravity waves generated by distributed convective sources at tropospheric altitudes? (2) What are effects of the convectively generated cylindrical gravity waves on mesospheric heating rates, wind profiles and density perturbations? The proposed work focuses on a better understanding of the basic physics underlying the generation of gravity waves and their dissipation, energy and momentum depositions and turbulence generation at mesospheric altitudes.
