2019年秋,我们启动了一年一度的谷歌教员研究奖(Faculty Research Awards)的征集活动,这个项目的重点是支持世界各地学术机构在计算机科学、工程和相关领域进行的世界级技术研究。这些奖项使谷歌的研究人员有机会与正在进行有影响力的研究的教员合作,此外还包括学生的学费。
今年,我们收到了来自50多个国家和330多所大学的917份提案,并有机会增加我们在与健康、可访问性、社会公益AI和ML公平性相关的几个研究领域的投资。所有的提案都经过了广泛的审查过程,包括来自谷歌的1100名专家审稿人,他们对提案的价值、创新、与谷歌产品/服务的联系以及与我们整体研究理念的一致性进行了评估。
这些审查的结果是,谷歌资助了150个有前途的提案,这些提案涉及广泛的研究领域,从机器学习、系统、人机交互等等,其中26%的资金授予了美国以外的大学。此外,今年有27%的受助人被认定为科技界历来代表性不足的群体。这只是对弱势群体加大投资的开始,我们期待着尽快分享我们的2020计划。
