PATMOS has a history of 29 years and it is one of the first conferences world-wide focusing on low power design. The traditional scope of PATMOS conference series has mainly been about the design of circuits and systems optimized for highest performance at lowest power consumption. But meanwhile, power-efficiency has become extremely important for many other areas spreading far beyond this traditional R&D niche. Energy efficiency has become a must in the connected network of battery-operated nodes known as Internet-of-Things (IoT). Wearable devices, home appliances, vehicles and security surveillance systems mostly rely on small sensors that should ideally operate on battery charge for days. However, current battery technology can not meet the growing demands of these systems in terms of power. Also, energy-efficient ICT (Information and Communication Technology) infrastructures are a key issue of local and global economies. Based on the current trends, it is predicted that until the year 2030 the electricity consumption caused by the Internet will grow by up to 30 times. In addition, the strong increase of wireless communication and the growth of cloud computing require orders of magnitude more computational power. It is the intention of PATMOS 2019 to think beyond current solutions such that the wide gap between computation and the massive energy consumption for ICT infrastructures can be closed.
Starting in 2018, PATMOS will be collocated with two other conferences in closely related topics. Together, the well-established IOLTS and PATMOS as well as the upcoming IVSW, are forming the FEDfRo, the federative event on Design for Robustness. Registering to PATMOS allows visiting events from the other conference tracks. Thus, PATMOS will be part of a larger, better, full-grown three-day event with more attractive shared keynotes and a larger common social program, connecting a larger community.
The best papers of PATMOS will be selected for a Special Issue on Integration, the VLSI Journal, by Elsevier.

The 13th IEEE International Conference on Self-Adaptive and Self-Organizing Systems (SASO 2019) is held in Umeå, Sweden on June 16 – 20, 2019, as part of the Foundations and Applications of Self* Systems (FAS* 2019). It is co-located and has some shared activities with The 16th IEEE International Conference on Autonomic Computing (ICAC).
The aim of the Self-Adaptive and Self-Organizing systems conference series (SASO) is to provide a forum for the foundations of a principled approach to engineering systems, networks and services based on self-adaptation and self-organization. The complexity of current and emerging networks, software and services, especially in dealing with dynamics in the environment and problem domain, has led the software engineering, distributed systems and management communities to look for inspiration in diverse fields (e.g., complex systems, control theory, artificial intelligence, sociology, and biology) to find new ways of designing and managing such computing systems. In this endeavor, self-organization and self-adaptation have emerged as two promising interrelated approaches. Many significant research problems exist related to self-adaptive or self-organizing systems. A challenge in self-adaptation is often to identify how to change specific behavior to achieve the desired improvement. Another major challenge is to predict and control the global system behavior resulting from self-organization. Yet more challenges arise from the confluence of self-adaptation with self-organization. For instance, how do self-* mechanisms that work well independently operate in combination? How are meso-level structures formed which leverage micro-level behavior to achieve desirable macro-level outcomes, and avoid undesirable ones?
The thirteenth edition of the SASO conference embraces the inter-disciplinarity and the scientific, empirical and application dimensions of self-* systems; it thus aims to attract participants with different backgrounds, to foster cross-pollination between research fields, and to expose and discuss innovative theories, design principles, frameworks, methodologies, tools, and applications.

The Internet is evolving into a new multi-factor paradigm based around smart systems, Internet of Things, new distributed data structures (e.g. blockchains) and digital assets (e.g. cryptocurrencies). In the next years, these technologies will converge and interact, fostering novel services, business models and applications. Indeed, the blockchain can provide an automated and secure transaction infrastructure for next generation Internet of Things (IoT), mobile and smart systems while the voluntary user participation to the mining of cryptocurrencies could permit the development of new distributed services (i.e. offering an alternative to the advertisement-based revenue system used by most of the “free services” that are currently available). This workshop aims at gathering together researchers and practitioners, coming from academia and industry, to focus on the new challenges posed by the novel technologies and applications that are based on the blockchains infrastructure. The goal is to promote discussion on theory, progresses, development, deployment and on the practical usage of cryptocurrencies, blockchain technologies, smart contracts, etc. We are interested both in innovative works in an unexplored and/or emerging topic in the broad area of distributed systems (e.g., mobile systems, devices and applications, vehicular and robotic systems, IoT), and in novel findings and/or new insights that build on existing works. The submission of both “full-fledged” technical papers and “visionary” position papers is strongly encouraged. Demos, tutorial and hands-on on submission are most welcome.
The specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
All kind of blockchain based distributed systems Distributed (smart) systems relying on cryptocurrencies and smart contracts Blockchain and the Internet of Things (IoT) Blockchain and mobile systems Blockchain based mobile ad-hoc networks Blockchain based intelligent vehicular coordination Vehicular services based on cryptocurrencies and blockchain Blockchain solutions for automotive Use of blockchain to support mobile smart services and applications Blockchain in crowdsourcing and crowdsensing Blockchain in 5G Blockchain in edge and cloud computing Use of blockchain in Smart Cities Blockchain schemes for decentralization Blockchain-inspired or alternative byzantine fault tolerance Performance optimization of blockchain and decentralized schemes Use of blockchain in healthcare applications Blockchains’ energy consumption issues Security related issues in cryptocurrencies and blockchain Simulation of blockchains Use of blockchain in distributed simulation Use of cryptocurrencies in public volunteer computing Cryptocurrencies and blockchain usage in online gaming architectures and digital virtual environments Multi-Agent Systems for modelling the usage of cryptocurrencies Decentralized (mobile) processing, computing, and storage infrastructure Testing mechanisms to increase interoperability, robustness, stability, and confidence in blockchain (mobile) systems
