2019 International Workshop on Pervasive Flow of Things (PerFoT 2019) is co-located with 2019 IEEE International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Communications.
Internet of Things (IoT) has been attracting attention due to its economic impact and high expectations for drastically changing our societies. Trillion-scale IoT devices including sensors and actuators are being installed in “things” such as machines, humans, vehicles, buildings, and environments. At the same time, we are facing research challenges on how to effectively, timely and integratedly handle these over trillion flows gushed from massive devices or heterogeneous pervasive systems.
Based on the success of our previous workshops, IFoT 2016 and PerFoT 2018, the third edition, the 2019 International Workshop on Pervasive Flow of Things (PerFoT 2019) aims to present and discuss research challenges, design/ implementations of new architectures, and experiences on timely/real-time utilization of massive information flows (or data streams) as well as interoperability, integration and coordination among different pervasive systems possibly with different paradigms and from different epochs.

The integration of mobile computing and cloud services and engineering enables new applications that provide resources and services on an intelligent basis, process big data collected from mobile sensors, and support Internet of things (IoT) with massive cloud-based backend, where the 5G technology is expected to be an important enabler of this integration. Such applications will have tremendous impacts on almost every aspect of our daily life, including transportation, e-commerce, healthcare, safety and location privacy, smart home and smart city, social interaction, and many more.
This conference will provide a great platform to allow researchers in academia and industry to share their latest research ideas and results, development activities, and the emerging industry technologies on mobile cloud computing, services, and engineering. The conference solicits original technical papers, not previously published and not currently under review for publication elsewhere. Papers will be judged on originality, significance, clarity, relevance, and correctness. Extended versions of the best papers will be invited for fast-track publication in a planned Special Issue on Mobile Cloud Computing.

The scope of this dedicated workshop is to explore the opportunities for the application of quantum technology and optimization problems in networked systems. The workshop is part of NetSys, a biennal event originating from the key scientific conference on networked systems in German-speaking countries – KiVS (Kommunikation in Verteilten Systemen) – which was initiated 37 years ago and has international orientation since 2013. Over the last decade, a wide variety of experimental quantum computing hardware has been invented and used for fundamental demonstrations in laboratories. First results confirm feasibility of such hardware in real-world applications. Recently one can observe upcoming research in areas like traffic flow optimization, mobile sensor placement, machine learning, and many more. The development of quantum computing hardware, be it in the quantum gate model or adiabatic quantum computation (quantum annealing), made huge progress in the last years. This started to transfer knowhow from quantum technology based research to algorithms and applications. This development is offering numerous opportunities to contribute within research, theory, applied technologies and engineering. The following topics are crucial to the development of future improvements in networked systems based on quantum technology and optimization problems:
Quantum algorithms and applications Experimental results and demonstrations Optimized algorithms and applications Quantum information processing and computing Quantum simulation and computation Learning with hybrid quantum-classical methods Optimization in Internet of Things Cyber-physical networked systems Emerging networked applications Further related topics

The existing computing models and computing environments have changed immensely due to the rapid advancements in mobile computing, big data, and cyberspace-based supporting technologies such as cloud computing, Internet-of-Things and other large-scale computing environments. For example, cloud computing is an emerging computing paradigm in which IT resources and capacities are provided as services over the Internet. It builds on the foundations of distributed computing, grid computing, virtualization, service orientation, etc. Cloud computing offers numerous benefits from both the technology and functionality perspectives such as increased availability, flexibility, and functionality. Traditional security techniques are faced many challenges in these new computing environments. Thus, efforts are needed to explore the security and privacy issues of the above-mentioned new environments within the cyberspace.
We seek novel, innovative, and exciting work in areas including but not limited to:
