中文摘要: 在信息显示技术领域,各国的科研及投资重心始终落在显示材料、器件、芯片和整机系统等“硬”层面上。本项目将另辟蹊径,基于申请人最近提出的光视调制计算显像新理念,以信号处理的“软”技术去提升、丰富各类光电显示“硬”设备在多用户环境下的功能与画质。光视调制显示不再沿袭将像素排成2D完整画面后实施数模转换的传统做法,而是对2D可见光信号模拟调制后,利用人类视觉有限时空分辨率的特性直接成像于大脑里,揭示了成像机理从显示硬设备到人眼视觉系统转移的可能性。理论上,光视调制具有用同一个物理显示器为众多用户呈现互不干扰的多幅画面的强大功能,它在多用户虚拟现实、科学/医学可视化、信息安全/隐私显示、消费电子、教育、娱乐等领域有广泛的应用。本项目团队将把光视调制的前期研究深入系统化,开辟一个跨学科的新研究方向,并突破光视调制显像应用所涉及的亟待解决的关键技术问题。

英文摘要: This research project is to advance the applicant’s recent pioneer work on temporal psychovisual modulation (TPVM), which is new paradigm of information display. TPVM is an ingenious interplay of psychophysics, optoelectronics and mathematical modeling of human vision. The unique and defining functionality of TPVM is its ability to generate multiple interference-free views on the same display medium. The display system based on the TPVM paradigm differs fundamentally, in design principle, user experience and cost effectiveness, from all the existing ones, and it has a broad range of applications in multiuser virtual reality, scientific/medical visualization, information privacy/security, digital cinema, consumer electronics, digital gaming, education, business, military, law enforcement, and etc. The research team aim to establish TPVM as a new research direction and solve the challenging technical problems posed by practical TPVM applications.
