中文摘要: 本项目拟利用新疆天文台的25米射电望远镜和1米光学望远镜开展活动星系核的IDV(IntraDay Variability)观测研究。我们在6厘米波段进行了多年的IDV观测研究,发现平谱射电AGN约30%有IDV,有些源的变化是星际闪烁主导的。星际闪烁引起的IDV在6厘米及更长波段影响比较显著,更短波长的IDV则多是射电源内禀的,我们拟进行1.3厘米观测来研究IDV,短厘米波的IDV观测研究在世界上是很少开展的,有很大的发展空间。我们将用1米光学望远镜开展较大样本射电光学同时IDV观测,从统计上来研究射电和光学IDV变化有无相关性。以前只发现了个别的射电光学IDV变化有相关性,射电和光学IDV是否普遍地有相关性争论很大,很需要大样本观测来给理论模型更多的统计数据。我们还将研究变化幅度、时标及其与源的亮温度、Doppler因子、辐射区磁场、VLBI结构、AGN爱丁顿光度及中心黑洞质量的关系。

英文摘要: The IntraDay Variability (IDV) observations and study of active galactic nuclei (AGN) by using the 25m radio telescope and the 1m optical telescope of Xinjiang Astronomical Observatory are planned for this project. We have done the radio IDV observations at 5 GHz for many years, we have found IDV sources in 30% of the flat spectrum radio loud AGN, a part of the sources were dominated by interstellar scintillation (ISS). The IDV caused by ISS is mainly working at the wavelengths of 6cm and longer, in this project we are going to do IDV observations at shorter wavelengths e.g. 1.3cm, to study the IDV which would be intrinsic to the sources, also the short centimeter wavelength IDV observation is rare in the world and worth to develop. In the mean time, we will do simultaneous radio and optical IDV observations with the 25m radio telescope and the 1m optical telescope for a larger sample of AGN, to statistically study whether there is a correlation between the radio and optical IDV in general or not. There are marginal events which showed radio-optical correlation in the past, debate is still there, we need a large sample of radio-optical IDV observations for the statistical correlation study and modelling of radio and optical IDV.
