This project will focus on the carbonate-rich sulfide tailings in karst region in northern Guangxi province and its adjacent areas (south China). Based on analyzing the lamellar fabrics of the tailings profile, and using the methods such as Dold chemical extraction, Sobeck-ABA (acid-base accounting) and NAG (net acid generation) test, and element geochemistry and secondary mineralogy, as well as carring out the collumn leach test and the acid water soak test, this project will investigate into the chemical speciation distribution and stability of heavy metals (Pb, Zn, Cd and As) in the tailings, and the affecting factors (e.g. tailings fabrics, oxidation, acidification and secondary mineral adsorption)involving the heavy metals occurrence and stability in the tailings; and determine the assessment/prediction measures (e.g. heavy metals background values, active Nemerow index, mobility and transport ratio) of heavy metal combinative pollution. The study could expect to achieve the goals of: ①deeply understanding the behavior and environment effect of heavy metals in carbonate type tailings; ②building an assessment/predict system of heavy metals combinative pollution deriving from the tailings of non-ferrous metals mines in karst environment landscape region.
