Furhter applications of age hardenable Al-Mg-Si-Cu aluminum alloys in aerospace industry are resitricted due to the contradictory trend between high strength and susceptibility to intergranular corrosion(IGC). However, our early study has shown that simutaneaous improvement in both strength and resistance to IGC of the alloys can be achieved through cryorolling and ageing. In order to systematicly and profoundly understand the effect of the new treatment on age hardenable aluminum alloys, we will investigate the microstructural evolutions of 6000 aluminum alloys during preageing, cryorolling and reageing; establish the internal relationship between microstructures and mechanical behaviors and IGC susceptibility; discloruse the characteristic microstructures of the alloys with high strength and resistance to IGC and its formation mechanism; provide a set of optimised processing parameters for production of high performance 6000 aluminum alloys. At the presnt time, demestic and foreign studies on cryorolling focus on mechanical properties of metals and alloys, without involving IGC susceptibility of aluminum alloys. Additionally,it is of great importance in aerospce industry for simultaneous improvement in strength and resistance to IGC of 6000 aluminum alloys.
