This project focuses on the construction of a series of amphiphilic polythiophene-based rod-rod and rod-coil block copolymers and the exploration of the relationship among the polythiophene chemical structures, microphase-separated structures and photovoltaic properties. The influence of chemical structures of the main/side chain, solvent selectivity, ionic strength, translocation via nanopores, crystalline degree, thermal and solvent annealing, etc., on their phase structures will be fully investigated. Moreover, the photovoltaic properties of the resulted block copolymers with various structures will be systematically studied in order to optimize the performance of the polymer solar cell. The significance of this project is not only to improve the photovoltaic properties of polythiophene-based block copolymers via controlling their phase structures, but also to build up the relationship among their chemical structure, phase structures and device performance. Consequently, this project will provide some guidance for the design of novel conjugated polymeric materials and device in the future.
