Studies in subliminal affective priming have found that subliminal presentation of a prime object can quicken or shifts subsequent emotional judgment of the supraliminal object in the affective direction of the prime object, but the neural mechanisms underlying the two effects is unclear. The advantage of use subliminal affective priming to study affective deficits is that it can excite emotional response directly. As high-risk people prone for psychosis, individuals with schizotypy have deficits in affective perception which were related to their positive or negative schizotypal traits. In the present project, we will investigate the neural mechanisms of the subliminal affective priming influence emotional judgment in people with and without schizotypal traits, using both of event-related potential and functional magnetic resonance imaging techniques. The present project consists of three studies and aim to examine: (1) the neural mechanisms underlying of the positive or negative subliminal affective priming influence the speed and direction of the emotional judgment in normal people; (2) the characteristic behavioural patterns of subliminal affective priming of individuals with schizotypy and distinctive electrophysiological marker and brain activity pattern for positive or negative schizotypy. The findings of the present project will not only improve our understanding of the neural mechanisms for emotional automatic processing as well as the affective deficits for schizotypy, but also provide scientific basis for psychological adjusting approaches, the early diagnosis and treatment of schizophrenia.
