中文摘要: 未来千核级通用众核处理器支持共享存储编程模型是一种必然趋势,但面临延迟、带宽以及数据使用方式等方面的重大挑战。传统上通过专门硬件(总线或目录)维护Cache一致性的共享存储结构的代价、性能和功耗可扩展性有限。本项目针对千核,甚至万核级通用众核处理器,研究应用软件、系统软件、微体系结构三个方面协同管理共享存储资源的方法,提出一种新型共享存储结构- - D2SM(Dynamic Distributing Shared Memory,动态分布共享存储结构),课题将深入研究该结构在传统科学计算,以及新型高通量计算领域里的性能、功耗等微观特性,旨在解决千核级共享存储结构中面临的问题,对未来自主高性能众核处理器研制有重要的理论和实际意义。

英文摘要: The shared memory programming model remains the first choice for future kilo-core general purpose processor. However the challenges on memory latency, bandwidth and data usage model have changed significantly. Traditionally, special hardware,such as snooping bus and directory,is required to maintain the cache coherency for shared memory, which is not scalable in terms of cost, performance and power consumption. We propose a novel scalable Dynamic Distributing Shared Memory (D2SM) architecture for kilo-core and larger general purpose processors, which promotes collaborations among application, system software and underlying hardware microarchitecture in managing shared memory resources. This project will study in depth the performance and power consumption of D2SM when applying to the fields of scientific computing and high-throughput computing, and provide insights to addressing the challenges of shared memory architecture for kilo-core general purpose processor. Research outcomes will make a substantial impact on the theory and practice of home brew high performance many-core processor.
