Corrosion is one of the main reasons for the failure of pipes. Accurate measurement of the profiles of corrosion patches is of great significance for the structure health monitoring and safe operation of pipes. However, the profiles of the corrosion patches are very complex, and it is quite hard for conventional ultrasonic techniques to obtain the profiles. Consequently, we propose a quantitative characterization method for the profiles of complex defects based on electromagnetic ultrasonic guided wave tomography, by combining the advantages of electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMAT) and guided wave tomography. A nonlinear multi-physics two-layer model of electromagnetic guided wave transducer arrays is proposed to solve the contradiction between model's accuracy, completeness and its solution efficiency; a profile characterization method based on the combination of high-frequency and low-frequency guided waves tomography is proposed, to increase the accuracy of the measured profile; a three-stage multi-objective comprehensive optimal design method for electromagnetic ultrasonic guided arrays is proposed, to solve the problem which conventional EMAT design methods can not meet the requirements of EMAT arrays. This research lays a theoretical foundation for structure health monitoring technique of pipes based
