中文摘要: 存储系统及其I/O性能一直是制约计算机整体系统性能的关键瓶颈之一,在日渐广泛的虚拟化系统中,I/O瓶颈问题因为虚拟化层的引入和虚拟机资源竞争而更加突出。现有研究工作主要基于磁盘存储环境,但是随着固态硬盘SSD的逐渐普及、PCM等新型非易失性存储器和存储级内存SCM的出现、以及存储系统结构的不断演进,传统针对磁盘环境的虚拟化I/O机制将难以适应日渐复杂的存储系统。本项目申请针对虚拟化环境下面向新型存储系统的I/O优化问题,从文件元数据访问、镜像文件数据分布、多虚拟机间I/O干扰等角度深入分析和总结虚拟化环境下I/O访问特征与规律,建立虚拟机I/O访问模型;基于此特征规律,结合SSD、PCM及网络存储系统的各自特点,研究一系列虚拟化环境下的I/O资源优化调度方法,包括面向SSD的多虚拟机并行I/O访问优化、面向PCM的虚拟机元数据访问加速、面向网络存储的虚拟机I/O服务质量保证等。

英文摘要: Storage sub-system is always a serious bottleneck of whole computer system. In virtualized environment, this problem becomes worse and more complicated due to the introduction of virtualization layer and the competition of virtual machines (VM). Most of previous works addressing the virtualized I/O issues focus on the traditional magnetic disks. However, with the development of Solid State Disk (SSD) and Storage Class Memory (SCM) formed by Non-Volatile Memory (NVM, e.g. PCM), most of the conventional research on virtualized I/O can not fit for such new storage environment. This proposal targets the virtualized I/O issues introduced by such new storage environment. First, we analyze and summary the I/O access pattern in virtualized system with deep insights from several aspects including metadata access, VM image file distribution, VM interference and so on. Then, based on the above I/O access pattern, we propose a series of scheduling strategies such as parallel multi-VM I/O optimization method for SSD, VM I/O acceleration scheme for metadata by PCM, and QoS guarantee approach of VM I/O flow in network storage environment.
