The primary goal of the conference is to promote research and developmental activities in Biotechnology and Agriculture Engineering. Another goal is to promote scientific information interchange between researchers, developers, engineers, students, and practitioners working in Japan and abroad. The conference will be held every year to make it an ideal platform for people to share views and experiences in Biotechnology and Agriculture Engineering and related areas.
After the peer reviewing process by conference Technical Committees, all the accepted papers will be published in:
Journal of Advanced Agricultural Technologies (JOAAT, ISSN:2301-3737), which will be included in the Engineering & Technology Digital Library, and indexed by Ulrich's Periodicals Directory, Google Scholar, Engineering & Technology Digital Library, Crossref and Electronic Journals Digital Library. or International Journal of Pharma Medicine and Biological Sciences(IJPMBS, ISSN: 2278-5221), which will be included in the Engineering & Technology Digital Library, and indexed by Embase; ProQuest; International Committee of Medical Journal Editors(ICMJE); Health sciences library(NYU); HINARI Access to Research in Health Programme; etc.

Special Issue on Synthesizing evidence on plant diversification in cropping systems
Diversification of plants in cropping systems is one of the pillars of agro-ecology. The amount of primary research (trials, surveys, simulation studies) on plant diversification is rapidly increasing. A large number of individual studies were conducted during the last two decades, especially on intercropping, cultivar mixing, agroforestry, and on crop rotations. However, the accumulating results are often variable, contradictory, or uncertain, making any attempt of generalization difficult.
A key purpose of research synthesis is to collate, synthesize, and report the available evidence on a given topic using transparent and replicable methods. Standard methods such as systematic review, evidence mapping, and meta-analyses are now available for the integration of results. Many new applications of these approaches are emerging in the agro-ecological science community.
The objective of this special issue is to shift the focus from individual studies to the accumulating body of evidence concerning the agronomic, economic, and environmental benefits of plant diversification. The scope of this issue covers all forms of diversification, from the mixing of cultivars or species at the field scale to the diversification of land use at large scale. Both qualitative (systematic reviews, evidence maps) and quantitative syntheses (meta-analyses, ensemble modelling) will be considered for publication. Authors are encouraged to use formal and rigorous protocols designed to reduce bias in the collection, synthesis, and reporting of results.
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Meta-analysis of published data on plant diversification
- Statistical analysis of experimental networks assessing cropping systems
- Quantitative analysis of farm surveys studying benefits of plant diversification
- Syntheses of simulated data produced by crop and ecological models
- Analysis of large datasets on intercropping, cultivar mixing, or agroforestry
- Systematic reviews based on rigorous protocols

Topics
We still have a theoretical framework that contemplates only two codes in Nature: the genetic code, that appeared at the origin of life, and the codes of human culture, that arrived almost four billion years later. In the past twenty years, however, various independent discoveries have shown that many other organic codes exist in living systems in addition to the genetic code, and this implies that they came into being during the history of life and gave specific contributions to that history.
Aims and Scope
The study of all codes of life with the standard methods of science is a new field of research that must be turned into practice and so far three steps have been taken in this direction: (1) the foundation of an International Society of Code Biology (in 2012), (2) the organization of Annual International Conferences in Code Biology (from 2014 onwards), and (3) the publication of Special Issues in Code Biology, starting with the one that appeared in BioSystems in February 2018. The present Call for Papers aims at integrating the verbal discussions of the Conferences with the written papers of the Special Issues and is addressed to all those who are interested in exploring the code mechanisms and the code dimension of life.
We invite both ‘Research articles’ that present new data, and ‘Review articles’ that make a survey of a given field, but we also welcome ‘Commentaries’ and ‘Opinion pieces’.

Special issue - "Variability in behaviour of pathogens and spoilage organisms- impact on food safety and spoilage"
Control of food quality and food safety along the food chain is critical to produce high quality and safe foods. Efficacy of control is however challenged by diversity in behaviour of food-borne pathogens and spoilage microorganisms. Food processing environments and food preservation measures can trigger microbial adaptation and also impose significant selection forces on food-borne microorganisms, and thereby possibly selecting for the most robust microorganisms. These survivors can cause food safety or food spoilage problems, or can become domestic flora in factories. This special issue will focus on diversity of food spoilage organisms (both bacteria and fungi) and food-borne pathogens and will address mechanisms contributing to microbial diversity; impact of single cell and population diversity; and advances in modelling approaches to quantify and predict microbial diversity.
